On tour with EXO in Haiti

The drive from the airport through the streets was very sad as I saw such great poverty. However, it’s amazing how well Haiti has recovered since the terrible earthquake in 2010.

After driving just over 30 minutes, we arrived at the most beautiful guest house, ‘Karibuni’, owned by a wonderful lady Dominique and her husband, Ebner. They were missionaries in Conga and had to flee with their two-month-old child leaving everyone behind. God has blessed them with this incredible business overlooking the most amazing view of Haiti.

As EXO is so well known and loved by the French-speaking nations, over the last 17 years, we have travelled extensively to many French-speaking countries – France, Belgium, Montreal, Noumea, Guadaloupe, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, and Congo, to name a few. However, this is our first trip to Haiti to play two concerts. After just playing a few bars of the intro, the audience would start singing along with the melodic lines. From the first verse of many songs, they would sing along with Chris & Laura Christensen (the founders of EXO).

EXO in Haiti 2017

On arriving in Haiti there was a slight apprehension as well as excitement as there always is when I arrive in a country for the first time. This is probably country 110 now that I have travelled to.

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
