Thank for the years with BBC Songs of Praise

It has been a pleasure and Joy to be part of the Songs of Praise (SOP) family for over 20 years.

We celebrate our time with Songs of Praise on the adjacent pages, featuring several broadcasts, including footage at our Local Church ‘City Gates Church, Ilford.’ This recording was special with our church family, and the first time our whole family has been involved, including our son-in-law, Jermaine Lynch! We have had the pleasure of working with many producers and crew members, forming good friendships. Karen Hannah and her team have special places in our hearts, and from watching the footage, you will see why. It has always been a joy recording at each location.

Some footage will go back to 1996 with Graham Kendrick and his band at Glastonbury. Remission Singers (Vel’s choir from her father’s church were also featured on this broadcast). Steve and Vel have been working with Graham now for over 30 years!! Beracah Music still employs some of these musicians and singers.

Songs of Praise is the longest-running religious television programme in the world. It was first seen and heard on 1st October 1961. The first edition, with guest soloist Heather Harper, came from the Tabernacle Baptist Chapel in Cardiff. The programme showcases the best congregational hymn singing up and down the land. Although church attendance has declined over the programme’s life, Songs of Praise continues to fill churches and venues with enthusiastic congregations.

Their most recent filming was at the Birmingham Christian Centre and their local church City Gates Church.

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
